AEL Beta 0.0.1 — launching soon
Questions and answers
About AEL
What is AEL?
AEL is the Agent Engineering Language: a programming language for building AI agents as reliable, native software.
You will write agents, their prompts, tools and workflows as typed code, and AEL will build them into self-contained programs for servers, containers and devices.
Which platforms will it build for?
You will build for Linux, macOS, Windows, containers and microcontroller boards from one language.
Will I need to install anything else?
Installers for Linux, macOS and Windows will come with target management and a health check, and desktop and server programs will need nothing else installed.
Can I use my existing programs?
You will call your existing Python, JavaScript, Java or .NET programs, shell commands and operating-system operations as typed tools, with runtimes you provide, locally or on a remote worker.
Availability
Can I use AEL today?
AEL is not available yet: there is nothing to download, install or sign up for until Beta 0.0.1 launches.
When will Beta 0.0.1 launch?
The launch date will be announced in the AEL updates feed.
Where will I get it?
When the beta launches, installers will be published on ael.openeng.ai, official packages on pack.ael.openeng.ai and the full documentation on docs.ael.openeng.ai.
What will the licence and pricing be?
The licence and pricing will be announced at launch.
Packages and trust
Who publishes packages?
Only OpenEng will publish to the official registry; every version will be signed, and a published version will never change.
What are packages written in?
Every AEL package, from OpenEng or from you, will be written in AEL and ship as compiled, verified AEL, with no bundled native code and no install scripts.
Will releases be signed?
Beta releases will be signed and reproducible, with a software bill of materials.
How do I report a security issue?
Beta 0.0.1 will come with a published security response process; until then, security reports go to ael@openeng.ai.
